Assurance: audit assistant

KPMG Channel Islands

graduate photo

John-Paul is an audit assistant at KPMG, Channel Islands. He studied history at the University of Huddersfield and is an ACA Chartered Accountant.

I am currently working in our audit department in the Channel Islands. The role of accountants involves reviewing the financial statements of client firms, and giving advice on regulation and tax computations. A typical day will involve acquiring sufficient audit experience to gain comfort over significant accounts. I really enjoy living and working in the Channel Islands – the people are extremely friendly, and it’s a beautiful place to stay.

Becoming qualified

Achieving my professional qualification, the ACA, has given me a thorough knowledge of the technical side of accounting, which has enabled me to take on roles that would otherwise be beyond my level of competence. The most difficult aspect of the training is managing both work and study but there is an excellent work/life balance here.

Get the right fit

My advice would be to make sure you take the time to choose the right workplace for you. Find the right fit. After that, hard work and dedication will help you to progress further.
