Corporate recovery: associate

Matt is an associate at Zolfo Cooper (ZC). He studied accounting & financial management at Loughborough University and is an ACA Chartered Accountant.

I work in corporate advisory, restructuring and recovery, which means that every assignment I’m given is different, although most, if not all, involve working closely with the employees of a company in distress, and trying to understand the processes and challenges facing that company.

Getting qualified

As I now have the technical knowledge I’ve gained through studying for my ACA qualification, I feel that I am in a great position to excel in my chosen industry and build upon my existing skill set, while providing clients with a high quality of service. Having the support of my organisation while I was studying for this prestigious qualification was invaluable. Achieving it has opened up a variety of different opportunities here, should I wish to broaden my experience.

A good mentor

The rewards and opportunities that await you once you qualify are worth the hard work and sacrifices you have to make along the way. I would advise anyone studying for a qualification to find someone within their organisation who is similarly qualified to act as their mentor, as this can be a hugely beneficial relationship.
