Why internal audit?

Internal audit interested me as it is not solely focused on finances: a large part of the work includes the systems and processes throughout the business, covering all aspects of operations.

My job

Our main aim is to provide our client with assurances that the risks that could affect their business are under control. We audit specific areas to ensure that the controls in place are being complied with and operating effectively. This involves carrying out testing, interviewing senior staff, evaluating internal controls, compiling evidence and providing feedback to the client.

Continuous learning

What I really enjoy about this job is the amount of new things I am learning. I am continually performing audits within completely new and specialised areas of a client, which could be a college, hospital, police authority or housing association.

Presenting a tender

My career highlight so far would be when I was asked to be part of a team presenting a tender to a new client. Although I was very nervous about presenting in front of a panel of board members and directors, I was pleased that the team had placed confidence in me to help present a successful tender.
