Risk assessment: senior associate, risk assurance

Jonathan is a senior associate in risk assurance at PwC. He studied geographical sciences at the University of Bristol and is ACA qualified.

My team helps companies identify, understand and evaluate the risks facing their business.

My job

Day to day I get involved in a wide range of work – including IT general controls reviews, data assurance engagements and other audits – crossing different sectors and sizes of clients. I work with both internal and external stakeholders to design a scope of work and manage its completion through to reporting to senior management.

Striking a balance

We each have a responsibility to strike our own work/life balance – everyone will have slightly different priorities. It’s challenging at the beginning, when you’re establishing your career and reputation, particularly with a mix of professional exams and client work – but it improves as you develop as a professional. Our clients expect to work with well rounded people, so getting the balance right, wherever it is for you, is important!

Social events

My workplace is extremely friendly and sociable – at all levels. Because you join as part of an intake of graduates you quickly make new friends as well as colleagues. There are lots of socials too – month end drinks, sporting events and team ‘away days’.
