Jonathan Hiscock, managing director, Deutsche Bank

What was a major turning point in your career?

A turning point in my career was being given responsibility for my own trading decisions for the first time. This was my opportunity to see if I could stand alone.

Key skills

For a successful career in banking, I think the key skills are effective communication and problem solving. Most importantly, successful leaders have drive. I'd describe this as a high level of energy and a commitment to inspire others. Keep up with learning. I'd advise graduates to be proactive about continuing to learn from their more experienced colleagues – there's a wealth of knowledge there waiting to be tapped.
