My job is to organise our campaigning presence at the summer music festivals. I spend half my time in the office and the other half out at festivals co-ordinating volunteers and trouble shooting any problems. Today I’m in the office so I cycle the five minutes to work and start up my computer ready to respond to queries from volunteers and event organisers.
I spend a lot of time building relationships with event organisers. I am often on the phone liaising with them to make sure that the logistics are in place for when we attend an event, and ensuring that we have the right materials and can gain access to the site to set up. I am also responsible for recruiting event volunteers, which I am working on today, making sure that they know where they need to be and what they have to do by sending out briefing packs in advance, which provide them with all the necessary information.
After lunch I start work on the health and safety side of the event, making sure that we comply with all the right regulations. I then take a break to call in at our in-house design agency to make sure that the adverts we want to use are all looking good. After that I have a meeting with my manager to check how things are going before getting stuck into the inevitable paperwork and invoices.
At the end of the day there is usually a rush to get everything done, for example making sure that the correct forms are filled in with the names of the volunteers attending. I also try to respond to any e-mails that have come in during the day before going home.
This weekend I’ll be going to another festival. The feedback and reactions I get from the public are fantastic, but I do have to be careful not to let the job become my life. However, with festivals happening every weekend, the buzz I get from working with the team is hard to beat.
