Bridget McIntyre, sales & marketing director, Aviva

'I learned to appreciate my blend of skills and to believe in myself.'

Who or what has been the biggest influence on your career?

During a leadership course run by The Harthill Group I learned to appreciate my blend of skills (rational thinker and emotionally intelligent) and to believe in myself. Now, in my role as sales and marketing director, I am constantly presented with intricate and stretching challenges - how to make our brands stand out, gain customers' trust, build lasting client relationships and make intangible products come alive.

'Don't let anyone but yourself control or direct your financial services career.'

As a business leader...

... you must have the ability to set a clear direction and bring a team with you. My advice to graduates would be not to let anyone but yourself control or direct your career.
