Amy Lipscombe

Event executive - conferences and events

Name: Amy Lipscombe

Employer: ExCeL London

Area of work: Conferences and events

University: Leeds Metropolitan University

Subject: BA conference and exhibition management

Going into conferences and events was a natural progression for me, having studied a related degree at university. While studying I undertook a placement year where I gained valuable events experience, which confirmed my interest in a career in events. I was then put in touch with the events team at my current employer through my university. I submitted my CV and after two interviews was offered a job.

My job

I plan and manage events within the venue and provide support to other team members on larger scale events. This means making sure that an event runs smoothly to develop good client relationships so that they come back to us for future events. I also ensure that feedback from events is collected and analysed thoroughly.

On a typical day I meet and greet clients, order equipment, compile function schedules and attend planning meetings or training sessions. I am usually venue based when I have an event to run and may have to be onsite at 6.00 am. If I’m not running an event, I work in an office and start at around 9.00 am.

Best and worst

There are so many different events being held that I never get bored. The hours can be long, but it’s worth it to see an event going well.
