I went to boarding school and university in the very centre of Manchester so I have always considered the city as my second home. I never get bored of living here as there is always something going on and new places to visit. I never really fancied a career in London so it was a natural choice for me to choose the North West. I made many connections with chambers and practitioners whilst studying here and that made it easier to make an impression.
8 King Street Chambers is a civil and commercial set. I am currently in my second six of pupillage and have realised that you must be prepared to take the work you are offered and do it with a smile on your face! As for any barrister, there are no set hours of work. When there is work to do I have to do it, whatever the time of day or night. For this reason I chose to live in the city centre so it only takes me ten minutes to walk to chambers in the morning.
I studied and worked as a professional violinist before coming to the Bar so much of my spare time is spent playing the violin and performing in concerts.
Manchester is a hive of activity and has a great diversity of things to do. You can watch great sporting teams, bands and DJs in the stadia, arenas and nightclubs. There is a vibrant social scene in pubs and bars within the city to suit every budget and taste and you can also enjoy museums, concerts and art galleries to your heart’s content.
Manchester is a fun, friendly, exciting city that is a perfect environment for a lawyer starting his or her professional career.
