CURRENT SEAT Contentious construction
UNIVERSITY Edinburgh, law (2005)
I did a summer placement with McGrigors while at university. I was impressed with the structured training programme and sociable ethos, and felt I would fit in. My role as a trainee varies depending on the size of the case. Most of my work is under the supervision and support of associates and partners – however, as I have progressed I have received more responsibility and have handled a few matters on my own. My tasks include carrying out research, drafting and attending court hearings. The types of clients that I work with vary substantially; examples include banks and major construction firms. Most of my client contact is by e-mail and phone, although I am invited to client meetings when possible. The department can be very busy at times and this can result in longer than normal working hours. That said, trainees are not routinely expected to do long hours unless there is a real need for it.
