I was attracted to my firm by its size: there are numerous different practice areas and you can work for large clients and with lawyers in other jurisdictions. My first two seats were in real estate and insurance. I managed a number of my own files, which was a bit daunting at first but developed my confidence. I had lots of direct contact with property developers, insurance companies and other solicitors. I then did a seat in corporate while on secondment in Hong Kong. This involved working as part of a team on large transactions, taking responsibility for one aspect of them, for example maintaining and reviewing documents in the data room as part of due diligence. My final seat is in intellectual property and technology, working in the commercial contracts team. I attend lots of client meetings and deal with issues such as copyright, patents and software licensing.
