NAME Rajinder Kaur Sidhu
EMPLOYER IBM (Business Consulting Services)
UNIVERSITY Computer science, University of St Andrews (2004)
I applied to consultancies which offered good training programmes and excellent career prospects, and had interviews at both large and niche consultancy firms. IBM appealed because it has the ability to deliver a full client solution from strategy through to technical delivery, allowing you to experience an entire project lifecycle. I deferred my start date for a few months so that I could go travelling after finishing university.
A large consultancy allows newly qualified graduates to meet lots of people yet still work in small, personal teams. Large consultancies also have the resources to take on complex multibillion pound projects.
My job involves working closely with colleagues and coordinating team members to conduct and manage the technical delivery of the products we are working on for the client. Currently I am working on a multibillion pound telecommunications project to replace a client’s existing IT systems.
