Area of work: residential property

My interest in property started at school after hearing positive experiences from friends working in the profession. To ensure I had made the right choice, I spent vacations doing work experience, which gave me a proper insight into various areas of the industry.
After graduating from Reading University, I joined my current company working on their London estate residential portfolio. My work is primarily residentially based, focusing on leasehold enfranchisement – selling freeholds and lease extensions. I am currently completing the first of two placements before I sit my APC. A typical week at the moment is spent in central London, getting out of the office most days, either inspecting flats or houses or visiting residential lessees.
I have a lot more responsibility than I had expected and so a highlight for me so far has been completing various freehold and leasehold sales across the estate. I have enjoyed being able to negotiate deals on my own and learning how to deal with problems when they arise. In September, I am moving to the retail development team to be involved in the Liverpool regeneration project. I will be based in London, but visiting Liverpool every week.
