Five ways to sell your property work experience to graduate recruiters

Work experience will make a big difference to your application for a graduate job in property. Follow our advice to help your skills stand out on your CV or application form.
  1. Always place your work experience in a prominent position on your CV, as this is one of the first things recruiters look for. Consider splitting your work experience into ‘relevant work experience’ and ‘other work experience’ if you have notable property-related work experience.
  2. When compiling your CV or filling in an application form, focus on what you've learned from your work experience placements, even if they're not directly related to the property sector.
  3. Use bullet points and spacing carefully on your CV or application form to draw attention to your work experience. For example, use bullet points to list your skills and how they match those the employer is looking for so that the recruiter can spot the information quickly.
  4. Know what you found most enjoyable and challenging about each work experience job you’ve had. This will help you decide where your skills lie and how you have developed.
  5. Before an interview, make sure that you're able to talk about how your responsibilities and the competences you developed relate to the role you are applying for. For example, dealing with clients is a large part of a surveyor's job - talk about how you dealt with customers or clients in your part-time jobs.
