Name: Emma Orlando
Job: Communications supervisor
Employer: Enterprise Rent-A-Car
Area of work: Marketing
Qualifications: BA strategic marketing, University of Surrey
Having worked at Enterprise on a couple of summer internships during my degree, I had already established some contacts there. After graduating I heard there were vacancies and I decided to apply because I was already familiar with the culture.
My main responsibility is to support the communications team in all aspects of marketing communications: specifically, liaising with journalists, writing articles, briefing external agencies and ad hoc project management. I could be managing the new branding for recruitment advertising or taking a brief from the sales department on new literature for a product launch.
We are involved with all departments on a daily basis, working as consultants for them to ensure message consistency, awareness raising, performance marketing and reputation management. I’m office based, but travel frequently. Although it is critical to be organised, I enjoy my job the most when I’m able to use my creative skills.
I wanted to work in an environment in which I could use creative as well as analytical skills, and also apply much of what I learnt during my degree. Retail is becoming more and more competitive so the sector is buzzing and that makes it a challenging environment for graduates.
