This global IT consultancy firm was founded in Grenoble in 1967 and was originally called Sogeti. It went on to acquire two IT services companies: CAP and Gemini Computer Systems, and established itself as a leader in the European market, with offices in 21 countries.

The organisation grew considerably throughout the nineties and then bought Ernst & Young’s consultancy practices. It took up the name Capgemini in 2001, and has since focused on its local professional and outsourcing capabilities.

Its key services include: technology transformation; operational research; marketing, sales and services; strategy and transformation; and supply chain management, among others. Its clients work in many business sectors including IT, media and entertainment, energy and utilities, financial services, consumer products and retail, government and the public sector.

In July 2011, the firm launched a social media management service, which offers real-time web analytics to help clients maximise online performance. A team-up with Attensity, a provider of customer experience management services, has allowed the firm’s clients to stay abreast of social network reactions to their marketing campaigns.

The firm’s recent growth has been considerable. It hired nearly 9,000 new consultants in the first quarter of 2011. A voracious spree of acquisitions, which has seen it spend up to €840m swallowing up 17 concerns in the last two years, has also helped it expand into new territories such as Brazil.
