CMS Cameron McKenna, a UK-headquartered 'silver circle' law firm, is 1 of 10 European law firms that make up the CMS legal group. The firm’s specialisms include banking and international finance, corporate, commercial, real estate, energy and construction.
Its client list reflects the firm’s strengths and includes several FTSE 100 clients:
Other clients the firm has regularly acted for include National Grid, Enterprise Inns, ABN Amro Capital, LDC and LGV.
The Legal 500 recognises CMS Cameron McKenna as a first tier firm in power (including electricity, nuclear and renewables), immigration, pensions, insurance and re-insurance litigation.
And a second tier firm in private finance initiative (PFI), construction, environment, property, emerging markets, finance and health and safety.
The firm has over 140 partners and employs over 1,000 people in the UK. It maintains considerable international presence with offices in London, Aberdeen, Bristol, Bucharest, Budapest, Edinburgh, Kiev, Moscow, Prague, Shanghai, Sofia and Warsaw. Thanks to its CMS banner it also has close ties with offices across Europe including Amsterdam, Berlin, Madrid, Rome and Zurich, among many others.
Camerons works on many private finance initiative/public private partnerships, securing deals that are very much in the public eye. An ongoing example is its work with major contractors on the 2012 London Olympics. It is highly regarded in the energy sector too; its Aberdeen office is heavily involved with North Sea oil. With the renewed interest in nuclear power, the firm has secured a number of high profile deals in this area.
Trainee salaries

In Scotland salaries are annually reviewed.
CMS Cameron McKenna is said to stick up for its trainees. Its training contract consistently rates highly among its own staff, with many citing the autonomy they’re given over their work as an important factor.
The firm says it likes to encourage trainees to think through problems on their own before asking for help, and that giving them space in a supportive, friendly atmosphere is the way to achieve this. It won the ‘Excellence in training award’ from trade magazine Lawyer HR in 2009 and it gets good comments in the blogosphere in terms of response times for interview applicants.
It’s a decent-to-do-business-with kind of place and is a former winner of Law Rocks! A charity battle of the bands between global law organisations.
