Deloitte is one of the ‘Big 4’ group of professional services firms. It provides clients with effective ways of improving their own businesses, advising on aspects such as strategy and financial processes. There are four key areas of work within the organisation:
Clients are drawn from a range of specialisms and sectors, including telecommunications companies such as Vodafone, water company Severn Trent and the bookmakers William Hill. Deloitte is also the official services provider for the London 2012 Olympic Games.
The organisation currently appears to be seeking to develop its interests in real estate. This follows the 2010 merger of Deloitte LLP and Drivers Jonas LLP to create the real estate advisory company Drivers Jonas Deloitte. In summer 2011 Deloitte opened a cost consultancy business within its real estate practice which will operate alongside the Drivers Jonas Deloitte construction advisory practice.
Deloitte pursues a strategy of mergers and acquisitions to expand its services and gain bases for further development. For example, in 2009 it strengthened its consultancy practice by acquiring part of the management and technology consulting company BearingPoint. Deloitte’s diverse interests are a draw for graduates, as it can provide a range of experience.
Deloitte says only that salaries are competitive. This is typical of the leading professional services firms. It seems likely that graduate recruits in London can expect to be paid between around £27,000 and £30,000, depending on division.

Deloitte’s HR department places a high value on transferable skills and extracurricular activities, and believes that applicants should not be judged solely on their academic achievements, although specific technical knowledge may be required for some roles.
The organisation supports events relating to Teach First, the scheme that places high-flying graduates in schools in challenging circumstances, on the principle that the skills gained by Teach First graduates could be useful in the Deloitte workplace.
Deloitte appears to be interested in engaging with students on a personal level, for example by making use of social media. It seeks to recruit talented individuals regardless of their background, and recently expanded its UK school leaver programme so that it doesn’t miss out on bright students who decide not to go to university. The door is open to students with straight Bs at A level if they went on to gain a 2.1 degree.
