How to make the most of your day

Before the TARGETjobs National Pupillage Fair

Pre-register to fast-track your entry and get to the chambers just that little bit quicker.
Read TARGETjobs Law and explore the chambers’ detailed profiles on targetjobslaw.co.uk, before clicking through to the individual websites of the chambers that interest you.
Prepare some focused questions to ask representatives, such as how your career aspirations match the work of the set.
Think about your sales pitch to each set. What attracts you to the set, what can you offer and what experience do you have in their specialist areas?

What to do when you arrive at the pupillage fair

First, register, check in and pick up your fair programme and Pupillages Handbook. If you’ve pre-registered you’ll need to bring a copy of your confirmation e-mail, this e-mail will be sent to you a week before the event.
Look through the programme to make sure you have time to fit in meeting exhibitors with hearing any talks that interest you.

At the pupillage fair

Treat the TARGETjobs National Pupillage Fair as a fact-finding mission rather than as a chance to give out your CV. Exhibitors are unlikely to want to collect CVs from everyone interested in pupillage at their chambers.
Use the time to ask focused questions that tell you what you want to know but also create a good impression. Avoid questions about chambers’ areas of practice; you should already know this from your earlier preparation.
Talk to the recent pupils as well as to members of pupillage committees: pupils and recent tenants are well placed to give you insights into the work and chambers’ culture.
Note the names of any chambers’ representatives who you speak to – mentioning a name when explaining why you want to join the chambers is a nice touch in applications and interviews.
Ditch your pre-conceptions. It’s fine to target sets you would like to join but keep your options open. The most fantastic opportunity for you might come from a set you had never previously considered.

How to get there

Details on venue of 2012 event. We recommend public transport as the best way to get to Lincoln's Inn simply because metered parking is very limited and expensive.

By underground

The nearest underground stations are Holborn (Piccadilly and Central lines) and Chancery Lane (Central line). The foot entrance to Lincoln's Inn on Saturday is off Lincoln's Inn Fields Square on the Serle Street side. We cannot guarantee that other entrances will be open.

The nearest railway stations are at Blackfriars and Farringdon. The nearest mainline station is King's Cross St Pancras from where it is a short tube journey on the Piccadilly line to Holborn.
