Looking for work experience? The following organisations are just a few of the many offering different kinds of temporary work locally, nationally and abroad.

AIESEC
International student network - active in 83 countries - for work experience and exchange opportunities. A wide variety of programmes lasting up to 18 months. To take part you need to join a local association at an affiliated university.
BUNAC
Information about working holidays in the USA, New Zealand, Canada, South Africa, Ghana and Jamaica. Lots of different programmes - you don't have to be current student for some of them.
Business Bridge and Community Bridge
This is a Liverpool-based initiative and is open to students at any of the city's higher education students. It offers paid summer and term-time project work.
Camp America
Information about over 12,000 summer placements in the USA, working with children in camps or families. Childcare experience and teaching skills are useful.
Camp Counselors USA
Work Experience USA & Down Under
An American organisation offering summer camp counselling work and other work experience in the US, Australia and other countries. All placements are available to students or deferred students. For other work experience, travel, J-1 visa and other assistance are supplied, with the option of securing your own employment or choosing a sleection of jobs already on offer.
CIEE
International study exchange opportunities worldwide, plus much more. Also runs the JET (Japan Exchange and Teaching) programme and provides study-related placements.
Community Service Volunteers
CSV provides volunteering opportunities and practical work experience throughout Britain for anyone between the ages of 16 and 35.
Cymru Prosper Wales
National Assembly scheme providing project-based work placements for university students and graduates living or studying in Wales.
Earn & Learn (The South West)
No website yet, but contact the careers services at Exeter or Plymouth University.
Provides help for undergraduates looking for part-time jobs to pay their way through education and develop employment skills.
Global Volunteer Network
Global Volunteer Network is a non-profit organisation. It places volunteers in community projects in China, Ecuador, Ghana, Nepal, Romania, Russia, Thailand, and Uganda. Volunteers have the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational, environmental and community aid programs. Examples of activities available to volunteers include teaching English, environmental work, health and sanitation, and cultural home stays.
Graduate Link (Yorkshire)
Graduate Link is funded by the European Social Fund (ESF) and operates on behalf of the 12 university and higher education colleges in Yorkshire and the Humber to promote graduate recruitment in local companies all the year round.

IAESTE
Administered by the Central Bureau for Educational Visits and Exchanges, this site offers information about international industrial experience. Placements last two to three months over the summer or longer for those on sandwich degrees. Mainly for people with technical backgrounds.
i-to-i International Projects
Various kinds of work experience in South America, Asia, the US and Europe, usually voluntary projects - ranging from teaching to conservation. Placements can be short or extend to a year out.
Millennium Volunteers
A government-funded initiative which encourages young people to volunteer their time and participate in local projects.
National Association for Managers of Student Services in Colleges
Provides links to many sources of information about work experience, work placements and international exchanges.
Northern Ireland Science Shop
A collaborative venture between universities and various community groups to arrange project and research work.
nwSAGO (North West)
nwSAGO, a partnership of university/higher education careers services and business support services in the North West, promotes work experience for students as part of its aim to help students, graduates and businesses in the region.
Raleigh International
Organises expeditions to work on coummunity and environmental projects around the world. Projects last for three months and could include: tracking endangered species, building schools and large-scale conservation. Volunteers come from a wide range of backgrounds, including gap-year students, and are aged between 17 and 25.
Shell STEP programme
Shell STEP is a national programme run through a network of agencies offering more than 1,500 paid work placement opportunities to second or penultimate year undergraduates, mainly with small companies. Placements run over eight weeks each summer.
Teaching Abroad and Projects Abroad
A company which offers the chance to work and travel overseas through teaching and project work. Placements are flexible in length and open to anyone - but it's not a cheap option!
VSO (Voluntary Service Overseas)
An international development charity which works through volunteers. Projects are aimed at tackling poverty in the developing world, and placements generally last two years. New graduates can apply to teach English, maths and science, but most other posts require experience.
