STUDIED Ireland

When choosing an MBA programme I considered many factors, including return on investment, course content, diversity and reputation. Now, having completed the course, I can honestly say that it exceeded my expectations in all of these areas.

The course’s intake consisted of multiple nationalities and a mix of natives and expatriates. The small class size ensured that I got to know everyone over the year while learning a lot about other cultures. The diverse professional and cultural mix also enhanced classroom learning due to the range of people present – from entrepreneurs to senior executives – as there was a real blend of experiences. The willingness of everyone to help and assist one another, even during the busiest of times, was remarkable.

A tailored experience

During the first three semesters there were a common set of modules designed to build participants’ core
knowledge. In later semesters I enjoyed the opportunity to tailor the elective content towards my main areas of
interest (strategy and finance). The interaction with the executive MBA classes during the electives really expanded my professional network. Most lecturers were very willing to engage with the class and carefully guided the discussions to maximise learning. The variety of assessment methods employed, including class participation, case studies, presentations and exams also helped to keep me engaged and enthusiastic, even during the very intense times.

Enabling career change

I undertook my MBA on a full-time basis and received a part-scholarship from the university. It was well-worth
applying for the additional financial help. Overall I made a new set of lifelong friends and the course ultimately enabled and supported me in achieving my goal of changing career from bioengineering research to strategy consulting.
