RSM Tenon

External Audit Assistant

About us:

RSM Tenon is regarded as one of the most progressive and entrepreneurial professional services firms in the UK today. We are the UK’s 7th largest accounting firm, with leadership in the provision of business advisory, risk management, tax, recovery and financial management. Our national client base ranges from individuals and owner managed businesses, to large corporations and public sector organisations.

With over 50 offices across the UK and an international presence, we heavily invest in the best people to be at the core of our business. As a trainee, we know that you’ll want real hands on experience, enough scope to carve out your own position and a career with excellent long term prospects. Your future will be brighter at RSM Tenon, as we will invest in you right from the very start of your career. Your development within one of our graduate roles will be optimised by training from our RSM Tenon academy, our programme of internal courses, external training and on-the-job mentoring. Highly regarded within the industry, you will embark on a programme that is among the best, ensuring you are well-equipped to meet both our clients’ and your own personal expectations.

The business discipline:

Audit Tax Advisory (ATA) is delivered through a number of key service streams; one of which is External Audit.

External Audit tends to deal with larger companies who have a turnover up to £20million. This work tends to be more specialist including services such as auditing of pension schemes, charities and grant claims, plus work such as due diligence and other transaction related projects.

The role, training and qualifications:

External Audit trainees joining our External Audit department will get involved in a range of activities on a weekly basis including;

  • Working at client premises as part of an audit team
  • Assisting in the production of financial statements for audit clients
  • Supporting colleagues in the planning and completion of audit files in the office
  • Occasional ad hoc administration duties

In addition to studying for a professional qualification, such as the ACA or ACCA, you will benefit from full study support. Internal and residential training courses will develop your existing skills and extensive career support will ensure your professional development. We offer genuine opportunities for career progression within an expanding firm.

Working within the ATA department, External Audit Graduates can look forward to a varied and interesting role, with much time being spent away from the office, either at college or on site with clients, supporting a large and experienced team. In order to meet tight deadlines and continue to offer outstanding service to our clients, graduates may be expected to work outside of office hours and occasionally travel abroad.

The nature of our client base means that trainees will gain exposure to challenging and more interesting work at an earlier stage than they would with most other organisations.

Within 18 months to 2 years, trainees are expected to take charge of small audit assignments and by the end of the training contract the strongest performers will be leading more complex engagements and report directly to the Audit Manager.

Your profile:

We’re looking for enthusiastic 2.1 calibre graduates, who are quick to learn and keen to grow with us. You will possess a minimum of 280 UCAS points (excluding general studies). You will be passionate, highly motivated and driven towards a career in accountancy, demonstrating a mature attitude. Strong communication skills are essential in this role, as you will be communicating at all levels.

It is the aim of RSM Tenon to promote equal opportunities for all regardless of a person's sex, marital status, sexual orientation, age, race, colour, nationality, ethnic or racial origins, religion, or disability in relation to all aspects of employment of its people generally and, more particularly, in relation to the recruitment, training, promotion, terms of employment, treatment and working environment of all its people.
