Your training

Pupillage at Hardwicke will expose you to practice at a leading set of chambers, while giving you the support and training that you will need to succeed at the Bar. We are looking for candidates of the highest calibre who will go on to become successful barristers.

Our size and the quality of our work across our core practice areas means that we can offer you the opportunity to see a range of work during pupillage. If you have a firm idea about what interests you, we can tailor your pupillage to you, although we encourage you to experience different areas of work.

Advocacy is a key component of a Hardwicke pupillage. During your second six months, you can expect to find yourself in court regularly: at least once or twice a week, sometimes more. We will provide you with regular in-house advocacy training, supervised by our barristers, many of whom are Inns advocacy trainers and parttime judges.

Our 12-month pupillages are split into four periods of three months. During each rotation, you will be assigned a pupil supervisor and other members of chambers for whom you will do work.

From day one, we aim to make you feel like part of the team. We have an open-door policy and a friendly, inclusive approach.

What we offer

We will be offering two pupillages commencing October 2013 with remuneration of £40,000 per pupillage.

This comprises an award of £32,000 and guaranteed earnings of £8,000. Up to £8,000 of the pupillage award can be drawn-down during the BPTC year. We also have a guaranteed income scheme for first and second year tenants.

How to apply

Applications should be made on chambers’ own application form, which can be downloaded from our website. The closing date for applications is in-line with the pupillage portal timetable.

Mini-pupillage

We offer 32 mini-pupillages per year: eight per quarter. Applicants should send a CV and covering letter to the Secretary to the pupillage committee. Please check chambers’ website for closing dates and details about eligibility.
