Bristol, £27,416 - £30,602 per annum (starting salary during training period)
Western Power Distribution (WPD) is a world class electricity distribution company recognised as one of the best performing in the UK. WPD covers both South Wales and the South West of England and delivers electricity to 2.4 million customers.
A foundation of this success is a real time computer system that continuously monitors and controls the electricity network. It provides information within the company and to other, customer facing systems. Some 900 PDAs update the system as field work progresses.
The main software components are Oracle, WEBFocus, Visual Studio and C++. Telemetry uses DNP3 and the IEC protocols. Hardware includes Proliant servers, using Linux and Windows 2003 operating systems, and VMware. You will join the team responsible for maintaining and developing these critical systems.
As a recent enthusiastic and ambitious graduate who has attained a minimum 2.2 in Electrical Engineering or Computer Sciences, an ability to work to tight and demanding deadlines in solving complex problems is essential. Training, comprising a series of manufacturer and supplier courses, supplemented by practical experience in WPD, will last for up to 18 months. Successful completion of a three month probationary period will lead to permanent employment.
