Transport for London (TfL) is responsible for one of the world’s most successful urban transport networks.

We are a truly unique organisation, providing the travel system and infrastructure upon which London relies. Delivering almost the entire London travel network, we manage everything from the London Underground and London Buses, to London Riverboat Services, London Trams and 580km of the capital’s roads. But we don’t just get people from A to B. The services we supply ensure the economic and social wellbeing of one of the world’s greatest cities

We’re not just thinking about today though. We’re also planning for tomorrow – building a transport network fit for a 21st Century city. We’re playing a vital role in preparing London for the Olympic games, and in creating a more sustainable future for the capital. The vast range of services we provide, and the team we need to provide them, enable us to offer an unprecedented variety of graduate schemes, each requiring their own distinct set of qualifications and attributes.

As part of the TfL 5 Year Investment Programme to Transform the Tube, we’re delivering upgrades and renewals to London Underground on a scale unprecedented in the network’s 150-year history. Sound project management will enable us to meet our objectives, delivering all projects on time, safely and to a high standard for our customers.

This graduate scheme will see you applying your theoretical knowledge and making a genuine and real contribution to the success of our projects. You’ll work on a variety of high-profile and complex developments at different stages of the project management lifecycle.

There are many improvements going on across the entire network, but you could find yourself working on the Kings Cross St Pancras modernisation, the Victoria Line upgrade, the £500 million redevelopment of Victoria Underground Station or the massive Tottenham Court Road scheme.

The scheme is intended to provide competent and professional Project Managers to help us deliver improvements to the Capital’s transport system and help provide a world-class Tube system for a world-class city.

Placements
You’ll join one of our Public Private Partnerships (PPP) or Private Finance Initiative (PFI) project delivery teams where forecasting, project implementation, performance and commercial management are some of the key drivers. Opportunities are also available to work in other areas across TfL, particularly in your second year.

Operational Placements
Critical to your success on the scheme and throughout your career is the practical experience of working in one of LU’s services - Trains, Stations or Service Control. Our Operational Learning team will provide all the skills and knowledge you’ll need, including Safety Critical qualifications, people management skills, technical knowledge and shadowing to ensure you have a valuable and engaging experience at each placement.

Working hours: You’ll be contracted to work a minimum 35-hour week. Depending on which department you work in, your hours will vary. Office-based placements will generally involve weekday working at usual office hours. Your three-month placement in an operational environmental may involve varied hours, including weekend working and following a set of shift patterns dependent on the role.

Further Education and Professional Studies
We’re committed to your development and will support and encourage you with your professional studies. Graduates on the Project Management Scheme will follow a supported programme of training and development to help them achieve membership of the Association of Project Management (IPM Level D qualification).

Duration
Two years.

Entry requirements
You’ll need a 2:1 honours degree in any discipline, although Project, Business Management or Engineering related degrees are particularly welcome.

Benefits
Join us as a graduate and you’ll become part of a business that’s changing London. Our rewards package is everything you’d expect from a graduate scheme of this nature. The starting salary is £24,488 in the first year, depending on your performance and progress this will increase in the second year. You and a nominated other will receive a free annual Oyster Card for travel throughout the TfL network. You’ll also receive an interest-free loan and 75% reimbursement of the cost of the purchase of annual tickets for travel outside of the TfL network. You’ll benefit from 30 days’ annual holiday (along with the standard eight days of public holidays) and you’ll be eligible to sing up for the TfL final salary pension scheme. You’ll also receive health club and gym discounts and optional private medical insurance.
