Management consulting graduate schemes

About us

Teach First is a unique two-year opportunity for you to be different and to achieve something special. Your energy, intelligence and creativity can transform the futures of students in challenging schools around the UK. At the same time it’s an opportunity to dramatically enhance your own graduate career potential and to make a tangible difference to our society.

Consider the way your life has been changed by the education you have received. Knowledge and the tools to solve problems, insight and appreciation of the world around you, and above all opportunity. In fact, you wouldn’t even be reading this if you weren’t about to graduate into a world of opportunity. Now imagine if you could help other young people to access all that.

Graduate career development

And while you are transforming the lives of young people in schools around the country, Teach First will help you to maximise your own potential, discover new skills and build on those you already have. With high-quality graduate training – leading to the achievement of Qualified Teacher Status – leadership development and supportive coaching and alumni programmes, Teach First will provide you with a strong platform of skills and experience to take forward into any future management career.

That’s why over 80 companies, government agencies and public bodies back Teach First to develop top talent for the future. Put simply, if you can engage, manage and stimulate a class of under-performing teenagers, you can handle pretty well any situation in any business.

The Leadership Development Programme

Teach First is all about becoming a leader and achieving success – both for yourself and for others. It’s an intensive two years. Beginning with the Summer Institute, our Leadership Development Programme combines working, qualifying and graduate training as a teacher with leadership development training, coaching and mentoring, and a range of networking and internship opportunities. You will also gain credits towards a Masters qualification and on meeting the expectations laid out at the start, will graduate with Ambassador status.

The first priority is for you to acquire the skills and confidence to take your place in front of a class of students and begin making a difference to their lives. Teach First will give you those skills – delivered through some of the leading education institutions in the country – and will be there with support and coaching as you find your voice and style in your school. Throughout your first year the focus will be on developing and enhancing your effectiveness as a leader in the classroom.

As your experience and confidence grows the emphasis will shift to developing your skills as a leader and manager and laying the foundations for whatever you choose to do after Teach First. And when you’ve completed the requirements of the two-year programme, you will be rewarded with Ambassador status and gain access to the many opportunities and benefits associated with this.

Benefits

During the Leadership Development Programme you will not be employed by Teach First but by the school where you are placed. Your salary, benefits and terms and conditions will depend on where you are placed. However, first year salaries range from £17,260 to £21,242 with London schools at the higher end of the scale.

As well as participating in one of the most valuable and prestigious graduate development programmes around – and knowing that you are part of a powerful movement for social change and making a real and lasting difference to the children you teach – you will also benefit from:

• 13 weeks holiday per year
• teacher’s pension www.teacherspensions.co.uk
• exclusive leadership development opportunities
• the opportunity to complete a sponsored Masters
• access to an extensive network of high-calibre Ambassadors
