[2010] IRLR 648 (QB) High profile team poaching / conspiracy claim against rival BGC Brokers LP.

Pupillage

We offer two or three funded 12-month pupillages each year. Our pupillage awards for 2013 are £45,000. Applications for pupillage must be made through Pupillage Portal/OLPAS. We strongly prefer applicants for pupillage to attend an assessed mini-pupillage and are only likely to offer an interview to those who have not done so in exceptional cases.

We place a high premium on outstanding intellectual ability, but we are also looking for the strong advocacy skills, determination and practical common sense that will lead to a successful practice. We offer pupillages only to those we believe have the potential to become tenants, and our pupils are not in competition with each other. If all of our pupils are of sufficient merit to be offered tenancy they will be. Indeed, we hope that this is the case.

We make a substantial personal and financial investment in selecting and training our pupils because we know that this is where the future of 11KBW lies. We aim to offer a rewarding and challenging environment which will prepare exceptional candidates for an exceptional career.

Life as tenant

Our junior tenants have an opportunity to work throughout the range of our expertise, alone and being led, and advocacy is an important part of practice from the start. We recognise that the start of practice can be daunting, so we assign a mentor to new tenants, and more senior members of chambers are always available to provide advice. Every new tenant taken on by chambers in recent years has quickly established a thriving practice. Our only aim is to get the very best practitioners. As with everything we do, our approach to pupillage is underpinned by a commitment to equal opportunities. We consider applications for mini-pupillage, pupillage and tenancy on merit alone; we disregard irrelevant considerations such as sex, race, sexual orientation, religion or belief and age; we have proper regard to issues arising from disability.
