About chambers

29 Bedford Row is one of the leading family law chambers in the country. The Chambers and Partners Guide 2011 recognised us as such with a Band 1 rating. It commented that Chambers is a “popular choice with leading solicitors for the full range of family work” and described us as “a fine outfit from top to bottom with the right mix of skills and personalities”. Many members of chambers are individually listed as leaders in the field.

Recent cases involving members of chambers include Agbaje v. Agbaje, Golubovich v. Golubovich, MK v. CK, Morgan v. Hill, Vaughan v. Vaughan and Walkden v. Walkden.

Our expertise

At 29 Bedford Row, we offer specialist knowledge at every level of seniority and in every aspect of family law. Work is largely based in London and the South East, but is expanding nationwide.

We boast a strong team of top-flight ancillary relief practitioners, dealing with domestic and international cases. We have expertise in all aspects of the law relating to children, including child abduction and adoption. In public law cases we act for parents, local authorities and guardians.

We also specialise in work arising out of the Civil Partnership Act 2004 and in TLATA and other cohabitants’ disputes. We are frequently instructed at all levels in Inheritance Act work and family law related professional negligence.

Many members of chambers sit in a parttime judicial capacity as deputy district judges, deputy High Court Judges and Recorders. Several members write articles and lecture on a variety of topics and also chair and participate in conferences and seminars. Throughout the year chambers organises a series of seminars for solicitors’ clients to keep them informed of changes in family law. Pupils are always encouraged to attend.

Pupillage

Up to two 12-month pupillages are available annually with awards of at least £25,000. Applicants are expected to have a 2.1 degree. Pupillage will normally be spent with three pupil supervisors and all pupils are encouraged to attend court with other members of chambers in order to gain firsthand experience in all our fields of expertise. Pupils can expect to be in court on a regular basis during their second six months.

Chambers operates an equal opportunities policy. There are no age restrictions for applying for pupillage. We have no preference between candidates with law or non-law degrees: we appreciate that applicants who have not read law at university will only have limited experience of law as an academic discipline when they apply for pupillage.
