Blackstone Chambers is a long-established set, combining formidable strengths in commercial, public/human rights, employment and European law, with stateof-the-art facilities and a friendly and open approach to client service.
Chambers’ practice breaks down into the following areas:
• Commercial law includes financial/business law; banking; competition and telecoms, insurance and reinsurance; international trade; conflicts; sports, media and entertainment; intellectual property and professional negligence.
• Public law incorporates judicial review, acting both for and against central government agencies and other regulatory authorities, arising from decisions and areas such as freedom of expression; equality of treatment; immigration; education; social security; housing; planning and local government. The combined expertise of members of Chambers in commercial and public law proves particularly valuable in City regulation and financial services cases. Advice in the human rights arena is also available, with particular reference to the impact of the Human Rights Act 1998 in all its aspects.
• All aspects of employment law, including discrimination, are covered by Chambers extensive employment law practice.
• Chambers recognises the increasingly important role which mediation has to play in dispute resolution. Seven members are CEDR accredited mediators.
Pupillage in Blackstone Chambers is divided into four sections and every effort is made to ensure pupils receive a broad and thorough training in all aspects of Chambers work. We are offering four (or, exceptionally, five) 12-month pupillages with individual awards of £60,000 for the 2013 year of intake. We will also consider applications for an advance of up to £17,000 of the award payable during the BPTC year. Chambers was a member of Pupillage Portal in 2011.
Early application is advised for an assessed mini-pupillage in 2012, which is seen as an important prerequisite to a pupillage in Chambers to begin autumn 2013. Since we insist on an assessed mini-pupillage as part of the overall pupillage applications procedure, we offer financial assistance either in respect of out-of-pocket travelling or out-of-pocket accommodation expenses in curred in attending the mini-pupillage, up to a maximum of £200 per mini-pupil. Applications for mini-pupillage should be made on Chambers own application form, which is available on request, or treated as a combined pupillage/mini-pupillage application via the Pupillage Portal.
Please contact Julia Hornor, our Chambers Director, with any queries or requests for brochures and application forms.
