About us

Mills and ReeveMills & Reeve is a major UK law firm with 97 partners and approximately 800 staff, operating from offices in Birmingham, Cambridge, Leeds, London, Manchester and Norwich.

Our business model is straightforward - the highest quality advice, outstanding client service and value for money. We advise more than 70 universities and colleges, over 100 healthcare trusts and NHS bodies, 65 local authorities as well as leading international insurers. Our commercial clients include global and UK-based businesses, FTSE and AIM listed organisations, private companies and startups. We have the largest private tax team outside of London and one of the largest family teams in Europe.

For the eighth year running Mills & Reeve has been listed in The Sunday Times Top 100 Best Companies to Work For, which recognises that we put people at the centre of our business.

Our range of services

Mills & Reeve’s services are delivered through firm-wide core groups: corporate, commercial & public law, real estate, private client and insurance. Further specialist sector teams focus on business, education, health, local authorities and regeneration.

Who should apply?

We welcome applications from penultimate year law students, final year non-law students or graduates. We expect you to have already gained or be on course for a 2.1 degree or equivalent from either law or non-law disciplines.

We recruit graduates who set high standards of achievement in both their academic and personal life.

You’ll have a good balance between academic ability, interpersonal skills, drafting skills, common sense, commercial awareness, confidence, professional attitude and a sense of humour. You will also be willing to accept early responsibility.

We look for candidates who have the potential to develop into our solicitors of the future.

Training programme

Trainees complete six four-month seats and are recruited to the Birmingham, Cambridge and Norwich offices. Trainees can temporarily move to another office to complete a seat not practised in their base office. The firm will support the move with an accommodation allowance.

Training is supported by a full induction, inhouse training programme developed by our team of professional support lawyers and the professional skills course (PSC).

A high proportion of trainees remain with the firm on qualification.
