What we also pride ourselves on is our culture, which produces the right kind of results for trainees and clients. We know that because they tell us. It’s partly down to the fact that we have deliberately chosen to stay in one location in Leeds. Having all our expertise and knowledge under one roof gives the atmosphere here a real diversity and vibrancy. It also means that as a trainee, you’re learning directly from some of the region’s most respected lawyers. And, with no long chains of command, we’re free to respond quickly to new ideas and opportunities. Training

Our two-year training programme, unusually, includes six four-month seats rather than the standard four – three seats in your first year and three in your second, chosen by you. There are two big advantages of this system. First, it gives you a broader range of experience and insights so you can really get to know and understand the business before you specialise. Secondly, it allows you to identify new interests and passions in areas you might never otherwise have considered. Experience bears this out. Many great Walker Morris talents and careers have been discovered in this way.

Career prospects

More than half of Walker Morris partners are ex-trainees. In other words, people don’t just come here, they stay. And there’s a reason for that. If you want to make a mark for yourself, you can. Walker Morris has rapidly grown to become one of the UK’s biggest law firms, the most profitable outside London, with approximately 500 people and a national and international client list. And we’re still growing. We credit this as much to what we don’t do as what we do. For example, we don’t stifle talent with rules and procedures; we give you the freedom to carve out your own niche. We’re not processors or churners; we apply imagination and commercial savvy. And, we don’t run a training factory; we offer challenges and opportunities as quickly as you can handle them throughout your whole career, not just one bit of it.
