Ropewalk Chambers has an established nationwide reputation with a professional client base throughout England and Wales. Our 37 tenants operate in four dedicated practice groups: personal injury and clinical negligence; health and safety at work; business and property; and planning, environmental and local government.

Areas of work

Ropewalk Chambers is perhaps best known in the field of personal injury and clinical negligence. We cover the whole spectrum of work in this field and over the years members have appeared in some of the highest profile personal injury litigation. In health and safety we specialise in regulatory work, inquests and tribunals and defend corporate clients, employers and individuals in criminal prosecutions. Chambers also have a strong reputation for commercial litigation, employment and property disputes. Members of our planning group have appeared in major planning enquiries. We advise and represent many local authorities in the East Midlands and beyond on a broad range of local government issues.

Who should apply

We recruit pupils with a view to their becoming tenants of Ropewalk Chambers. We are looking for candidates with an excellent academic background showing clear legal ability. Applicants will need to demonstrate that they have the personality, enthusiasm, stamina and commitment to succeed at the Bar.

Pupillage structure

We recognise that the future lies in providing the very best training for prospective barristers. We invest considerable time and effort with a view to ensuring that the traditions, ethos and reputation of Ropewalk Chambers is upheld by our future tenants. Pupils have one pupil supervisor who has overall responsibility for the pupil during the year, but pupils are moved within chambers to experience different types of practice. We have a well established system for the provision of continued support to newly appointed tenants.
