As a family-owned business we know that our people are at the core of our ongoing success. We recognise that different people want different things from a workplace.

Why work for Wates?

Did you know that we are one of the largest private construction companies in the UK? We have been in business since 1897 and, throughout this time, have been owned by the same family – our shareholders, the Wates family who invest for the long term. Across our businesses we have some 2,000 employees and a turnover of over £1bn. We were very proud to be Building Magazine’s ‘Major Contractor of the Year 2009 and 2010’ and our Chairman and Chief Executive, Paul Drechlser was named ‘Chief Executive of the Year’, recognising our position as a
leader in our industry. More recently in 2011, we have been awarded ‘Employer’ and ‘Contractor’ of the year by Construction News. Wates were also very proud to receive the Queens Award for enterprise.

Growing our talent for the future

The range of opportunities within the construction industry is so diverse we can offer a career to match your talents. So what’s involved? Surveying, project management, design, negotiation, planning, teamwork, problem solving... we could go on and on. It’s a truly dynamic environment. You can be part of a team creating buildings that will shape our future landscape and make a real difference to communities. Not many industries can say that.

We recognise the value in diversity so we accept applications from all degree backgrounds.
