About us

Monckton is a progressive, friendly and mutually supportive place to work. Chambers is run as a modern business by both barristers and staff who adopt a forward-looking, client-focused approach. Developments in the law and elsewhere mean that the amount of litigation and advisory work in our areas of practice is expanding, and we continue to enjoy significant year on year growth. Moreover, in a changing legal world, Monckton Chambers is set to maintain its position.

Monckton Chambers is recognised by both The Legal 500 and Chambers UK as a leading set in our core areas of EU/competition, indirect taxes and public and administrative law. We provide specialist advocacy services in courts and tribunals across many jurisdictions. Our members have a vast range of experience and an unrivalled knowledge of European and domestic law. We are renowned for our intellectual rigour and commercial focus.

Who should apply?

We are looking for candidates who have the set of abilities, personal skills and willingness to learn that will enable them to get the most out of our pupillage training programme and go on to enjoy successful careers as tenants in our Chambers. Successful candidates will therefore need
to demonstrate: academic excellence, the ability and appetite for intellectually challenging legal work, excellent communication skills, both oral and written, an ability to reason and argue persuasively and the spirit and personality needed to succeed at the self-employed Bar.

Candidates invited to interview will usually have a first class or good 2.1 honours degree. Non-law graduates should have obtained, or be expecting at least a Commendation in the CPE/PgDL. Applicants are selected on the basis of their legal, advocacy and distinguishing factors. Details of the interview process can be found on our website.
