About us

Nationwide Building Society

Nationwide is the world’s largest building society with 16,000 employees, around 800 branches, assets of over £190 billion and 15 million customers. We are the UK’s third largest savings and mortgage provider. Our size means you can expect enormous scope, variety and opportunity, while our mutual status gives us a unique set of values – open, honest, dependable and trustworthy – that you’ll need to believe in and bring to life every day. Do just that and you can look forward to a more rewarding relationship. The more you put into your work at Nationwide, the more you’ll get back.

Our graduate talent programme

With graduate positions available in a range of areas from Financial Management, Audit and Risk, to HR, IT and Distribution Channels; our two or three-year programmes provide careers with stretching targets and ownership of real business projects. You could become an HR specialist, a qualified accountant or auditor, a Chartered Financial Analyst, or even study for a Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply or a Chartered Institute of Marketing qualification. In fact, regardless of the business area you choose we aim to fund the relevant professional qualification – and as an organisation with a Gold Champion Status from ‘Investors in People’, you can be sure your career development is in safe hands.

Because our graduate talent programme is designed to develop you into one of our future business leaders, we want you to learn what we’re all about. You’ll therefore work with different teams across the building society and on a whole host of projects, before choosing an area that’s best suited to your abilities. So wherever your interests lie, and whichever programme you choose, you’ll be exposed to a broad range of business areas and benefit from inspirational support from our senior leaders. Each placement could be anywhere around the country, but the majority of placements will be in Swindon, Northampton or Bournemouth. For those students on a sandwich course, we also offer a one year Industrial Placement programme.

Development

Training on our graduate programme is provided through challenging and testing real jobs and projects, with accountability from day one. This is blended with group learning, coaching and skills training, which includes leadership, personal awareness and relationship skills. A senior manager mentor will also provide support and guidance, and your ‘buddy’, who is a previous graduate, will be there for more informal advice.

Benefits

As well as a competitive starting salary of £25,500, 24 days holiday, healthcare, life assurance, preferential rates on loans, eligibility for bonus (non-contractual), you’ll also be entitled to join the pension scheme. We also have an innovative flexible benefits scheme, covering a host of options such as purchasing extra holidays and retail vouchers.

About you

We’re looking for graduates with the ambition, passion and potential to influence our business and lead us to even greater success. In addition to being keen to learn and eager to build great relationships with colleagues across the business, it’s important that you’re confident working with senior staff and are committed to providing customer service that’s second to none. To join any of our programmes, you’ll need a 2:1 degree and 260 UCAS points (excluding general studies). You’ll also need a voracious appetite for learning and the ability to recognise where improvements to the business can be made – really making your mark as you take the first step towards a long and rewarding career.
