Hailsham Chambers has a distinguished common law lineage that includes the former Law Lord, the late Lord Diplock and the former Lord Chancellor, the late Lord Hailsham of St. Marylebone. We are proud of our tradition but are committed to remaining one of the most forward thinking sets of chambers in London. Members of Hailsham Chambers provide advice and representation in a diverse range of specialities before all levels of Courts and tribunals in England and Wales.
Hailsham Chambers has six main practice areas: professional negligence, medical law, professional disciplinary and regulatory, costs, personal injury and commercial litigation. We have leading practitioners and experts in all these fields and are recognised by the legal directories as a leading set for professional negligence, clinical negligence, professional disciplinary and costs disputes. We act for both defendants and claimants.
Our work ethos is to provide the highest possible standards of advocacy, advice and service. This is complemented by the support given by members of Hailsham Chambers to each other within our specialist teams and across Chambers.
We want motivated candidates committed to providing their best and determined to succeed. Usually a minimum 2:1 degree is required but special circumstances will be considered. Hailsham Chambers adheres to and supports the Bar Council’s policies on equal opportunity and non-discrimination.
We provide a 12 month period of intensive and high quality graduate training in a relaxed atmosphere. Pupils are likely to spend time with three different pupil supervisors, one for each of the first and second three months, and one for the second six months. The pupil supervisors’ respective practices will cover two or more of Chambers’ areas of specialisation, including clinical disputes or professional negligence in particular. Pupils are encouraged to work with different members of Chambers and to undertake work for the FRU or other pro bono work. In the second six months pupils accept instructions and attend court on their own account. Formal and informal feedback is provided and regarded as crucial for the learning process. A mentor is always available to discuss pupillage in the strictest confidence.
For 12-month pupillage commencing October 2011 apply on Chambers’ own application form which will be available to download from our website at www.hailshamchambers.com from January 2010. Closing date for applications is 1 March 2010. Alternatively you can write to The Receptionist (or telephone) to request a copy of the form once available.
We are offering two 12-month pupillages commencing in October 2011 with an award of £25,000 plus £5,000 guaranteed earnings each. Pupils are expected to pay for compulsory courses from this award.
