We engineer air, light, sound and energy to bring buildings to life. Since 1966, Max Fordham LLP has worked with the world’s leading architects to create beautifully engineered buildings. Our building services engineers bring an understanding of the whole building, from early stage design concept to the detail of delivery.

What we look for in a graduate

Our success comes down to our people. To produce the highest quality and most innovative engineering we need people who can think both creatively and practically. So we recruit and train people who rise to that challenge.

We are the originators of architectural engineering – the drive for engineers to care as much about the finish of the buildings as the architects. Our graduate engineers care about the finished building. They have a genuine interest in design and an insatiable curiosity to find out how they can make buildings work better and use less energy.

What graduates can expect

The 2010 Building Good Employers’ Guide rated us the best engineering firm to work for in a survey of 30,000 building industry staff. Our graduate engineers get a chance to work on a wide range of projects and sectors internationally, from our offices in London, Edinburgh and Cambridge.

We cross the boundaries between traditional disciplines to solve problems a less integrated approach might not even find.

Graduates become multidisciplinary engineers who understand both the big picture and small detail of a building. They become engineers who aim to deliver beautifully engineered buildings: low-energy buildings that work for the people who use them.

Our engineers are encouraged to generate and develop their own ideas and handle a range of technical issues. They are expected to produce and communicate their designs and see them through to completion. Engineers work in project teams and graduate engineers are trained by senior engineers on the job. Training includes site experience, design team meetings and seminars. Each graduate is assigned a mentor and is encouraged to work towards chartered engineer status.
