The Mountbatten Institute's multifaceted and renowned global exchange has provided paid internships abroad combined with academic study to thousands of young professionals since its founding in 1984. Participants come away with personal, professional and academic experiences that can change the course of a lifetime, including international hands-on corporate training, life in the financial capital of New York City, a worldwide network of peers and an academic qualification that significantly broadens a young professional's field of opportunity.
In 2007, the Institute developed an MBA degree designed to link workplace practice
with business theory, combining a year of MBA study and practical training in New York or London with a fieldwork experience in Bangkok, Thailand. Both the MBA and Postgraduate Certificate (PGC) are validated by our academic partner St Mary’s University College, Twickenham, London.
The 60+ Sponsor Companies we work with are selected due to the diversity of their operations and their commitment to intercultural exchange and experiential education. The large majority of our roles are within large financial services firms although we do provide a small number of placements in events management, law, marketing, recruitment and government. Current roles include Junior Business Analyst, Conference Coordinator, Marketing Assistant, Paralegal, Administrative Assistant, Assistant Project Managers, HR Intern and many more.
All of the positions are office based, administrative in nature (we don’t offer creative roles) and are designed to encourage the development of soft skills in a challenging, business environment.
Mountbatten's unique integrative learning curriculum combines the year's full time work experience with one of our sponsor companies in New York with participation in an academic programme. Interns are required to study for a postgraduate qualification throughout the year during evening and weekend sessions.
A key objective of the newly launched academic programmes developed by the Mountbatten Institute, in partnership with Saint Mary’s University College, is to enable interns to develop skills in analysis, problem solving and decision-making through a cross-cultural Business Studies curriculum.
Interns must opt to study towards one of two academic options:
Candidates interested in pursuing a more intensive academic timetable are invited to consider our MBA option. Like the PGC, the MBA in International Business Practice is approved and validated by St. Mary’s University College, London and has been designed to link workplace practice with business theory for interns who wish to experience a new dimension of postgraduate study and career enhancement. This degree is designed for the aspiring manager of international business concerns and for those who are interested in seeing beyond their present career choices, or current workplace, and exploring the international dimensions of business practice
