About the SHL personal career assessment

What does my personal career assessment mean? The test briefly explained and how to use the results.

What are psychometric tests?

Psychometric tests are objective measures of abilities and behaviours to help identify an individual’s potential or suitability for a particular job. Questionnaires measuring typical behaviours or personal style at work are widely used in recruitment and selection. Good employers go to great lengths to match people to the right jobs and will consider what behaviours and abilities are required for success in a role.

Please visit www.shldirect.com to find out more about selection techniques including psychometric testing.

What does this particular test measure?

Responses you give to a work styles questionnaire are used to predict how likely you are to exhibit desired behaviours. This questionnaire is designed to help you identify your potential strengths and development areas across various aspects of work in order to help you prepare for a job interview.

Please visit www.shldirect.com to practice other objective assessment tools.

Are any employers actually going to use the results of this test?

Employers will not have access to the results of this assessment but are likely to use competency based interviewing, targeted at the specific competencies identified as important for the job. In the interview you will be asked to describe your behaviour in a previous situation or role in which you exhibited the required competency. To do well in an interview, you’ll need to have strong and relevant examples that illustrate your ability to be successful in the role.

Who are SHL?

SHL has been providing objective assessments to employers for 30 years. Objective assessments enable businesses to make hiring and employee development decisions based on true measures of your ability and potential to perform well in a job. If you are asked to take SHL assessments during a recruitment process, you can be confident that the employer is using scientifically proven tools ensuring that you are given the fairest chance to demonstrate your capabilities compared with other candidates.
