All-purpose CVs

Here are four sample CVs: a chronological CV, a skills based CV, a combination CV and an 'alternative CV'. It's not advisable simply to copy them though, as recruiters can spot identikit CVs a mile off, and you should be ensuring you tailor your CV to meet the employers needs and best display your attributes. But they should be useful guides when you come to write your own CV. Click on each one to download them as Word documents (right click then 'Save Target As...' to save to your computer).

Chronological CV

Chronological CV

This is the most common type of CV in which you list your education and work experience starting with the most recent. Explain the skills you've acquired in the context of relevant experience.

Skills based CV

Skills based CV

Arrange your key skills under headings such as 'communication skills' and 'team work' and work in the evidence to support them. This is useful if you want to draw together lots of experience.

Combination CV

Combination CV

As the name suggest, combines elements of the skills-based and chronological CV. Useful if you want to flaunt the names of your employers as well as your personal attributes.

Alternative CV

Alternative CV

Use this radical CV to get some fresh ideas if you think your own one is getting a bit staid. Note: it was developed in Word 97 so formatting may change if you have another version of Word.
