Brighton PavillionSandwiched between the sea and the South Downs, Brighton’s popularity has rocketed in the last few years due to its ‘anything goes’ reputation. This diversity also extends to the local job market.

For example, if you’re an active type you might be attracted to a job in the hospitality, leisure or entertainment industries that are based in the city. Or, if you prefer a more conventional working environment involving desks and offices, you’ll also find a choice of employers in the legal, finance and public sectors. The ‘city living on the coast’ lifestyle also attracts numerous creative types to the area, so if you’re a designer, writer or artist you’ll find yourself in good company.

Postgraduate study in and around Brighton

Research at Brighton’s two universities covers the whole gamut. At the University of Brighton 65 per cent of the research in art and design was classified as either ‘world leading’ or ‘internationally excellent’

The University of Sussex is well known for its interdisciplinary work that spans arts, sciences and social sciences. It’s also home to the Institute for Development Studies, which leads research into international development.

Brighton and Sussex Medical School is a collaboration between the two universities and offers postgraduate study through both taught and research courses.
