Preston skylinePreston was awarded city status during the Queen’s jubilee year and as a result has been targeted by various developers. The upcoming Tithebarn Project, a £700 million regeneration scheme, aims to attract visitors and new businesses to the area by building several large department stores, shops, offices, houses and a new bus station: good news for graduates seeking work in Preston.

The city is a major centre for the defence and aerospace industry, with BAE Systems seeking graduates of engineering and manufacturing-related degrees. The Carphone Warehouse is also a significant employer in the management and retail sectors.

Postgraduate study in and around Preston

The fifth biggest university in the country, the University of Central Lancashire (UClan) recently spent £60m improving and expanding its facilities. Its recently refurbished student union houses one of the largest student venues in the country. In recent years, the university has taken big strides with its research ratings.
