Swansea is the second most populous city in Wales and its close proximity to the Gower Peninsular, along with its stunning selection of beaches, makes the city a favourite with tourists. Despite this, the service sector is the most significant employer in the area, predominately in areas such as HR, administration, health and education. Swansea NHS and the Welsh Assembly Government are major graduate employers in these fields.
Large companies such as Alberto-Culver and Virgin Media are also present in Swansea’s Enterprise Park, recruiting graduates for entrylevel jobs in customer service, sales, marketing and manufacturing.
Swansea University’s beautiful coastal location has made it a firm favourite with students; applications were up eight per cent in 2010. It has also won awards for the best student experience in the UK and boasts an impressive range of sporting facilities available for the use of all students. Highly rated research areas include history, physics, modern languages and biological sciences.
Swansea Metropolitan University was only awarded university status in 2008, yet its postgraduate courses in architectural glass and computing are already well respected.
