However, the main job sector in York is the service industry, with primary employers being the NHS, City Council and universities.

Postgraduate study in and around York

Although only established in 1963, the University of York is one of the top 25 universities in Europe. The institution recently doubled the size of its campus with the Heslington East development and will accommodate more students than ever next year. The university boasts the UK’s best department of research for English and rates in the top ten for archaeology, history of art and chemistry.

York St. John University offers highly rated postgraduate courses in psychology, performing arts and sports-related studies.
