Barristers’ chambers honoured for excellence in their practice areas

Students who are considering law careers and want to apply for pupillage – training places with barristers’ chambers – can now find out if the sets they are interested in have been nominated for the 2010 Chambers Bar Awards.

The 2010 Chambers Bar Awards ceremony will be held at the end of September, and honours chambers that have particularly excelled in their practice areas over the past 12 months.

The Awards cover a range of legal specialisms. For example, Brick Court Chambers, Fountain Court Chambers and 3 Verulam Buildings have been nominated for their work in banking and finance, while Blackstone Chambers, Doughty Street Chambers and 11KBW are nominated in the human rights and public law category.

When you are applying for pupillage it is crucial to research chambers carefully and ensure the sets you apply to cover the area of law you want to practise. One common reason for not succeeding in pupillage applications is applying to sets that do not match your interests.

Many chambers use the Pupillage Portal centralised application system, which opens in the spring, for pupillage applications. Details of all pupillages are available from Pupillage Portal, whether or not the centralised application system is used.
