Could you imagine being asked to arrange insurance for a movie star’s legs, or to deal with a claim following an attack of piracy off the coast of East Africa? These are among the questions raised by the Discover Risk campaign, run by the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII).
The Discover Risk campaign was launched earlier this year after research carried out by the CII revealed that 83% of students would never consider a career in insurance, while 57% dismissed it as ‘boring’. The Discover Risk website gives insurance an image makeover as a graduate career option, with information on salaries and career paths as well as insights into risk and the world around us.
In a further recent development to attract graduate recruits to the insurance industry the CII has launched a reduced-price membership scheme for UK university students. Discover membership allows undergraduates and postgraduates to join the CII, or the Personal Finance Society if their interest is in personal finance.
Caspar Bartington, relationship manager for education at the CII, commented, ‘Student membership is positive for the profession, which needs to capture the attention of the brightest students at an early stage. A great number of people in the UK work within insurance and financial services, and the reality is that these professions are based on relationships and interacting with other people. Networking is an important aspect of that, and this new membership offer allows students to make their connections early on.’
