Which are the most popular graduate recruiters in scientific research and development?

The most sought after graduate employers in scientific research and development have been revealed after they were shortlisted for the TARGETjobs National Graduate Recruitment Awards 2011. The winning recruiter will be chosen by an online student poll conducted by the trendence institute and announced at the end of March.

AstraZeneca is a global biopharmaceutical company that discovers, develops, manufactures and markets prescription medicines. It invests over $4 billion in R&D each year and has over 11,000 people in its R&D organisation. It offers graduate opportunities in research and development, purchasing, statistics, pharmacy, engineering, operations and supply chain, process engineering, finance, information services, medical sales and marketing.

Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl) helps to keep the MOD, the armed forces and the security services ahead of the challenges they face on the battlefield and the home front. The work ranges from urgent support for ongoing military operations to detailed research that helps define the next generation of military equipment. It has vacancies for 50 graduates a year.

GlaxoSmithKline is a pharmaceutical and consumer healthcare company with operations in over 100 countries. Its products include prescription medicines, vaccines, consumer healthcare products, and brands such as Lucozade and Ribena. It runs graduate programmes in finance, IT, sales and marketing, procurement, engineering and science.

The Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) is an independent, non-departmental public body of the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills that funds and supports scientific research. It offers graduate places at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory near Oxford, the Daresbury Laboratory in Warrington and the UK Astronomy Technology Centre in Edinburgh.

Unilever produces home and personal care products and foodstuffs: brands include Persil, Marmite, Pot Noodle and Ben and Jerry’s. There are graduate opportunities in supply chain and financial management, business and technology management, research and development, customer development and China marketing.

Bayer is a chemicals and pharmaceuticals company specialising in healthcare, crop science and material science. It is headquartered in Germany, has around 106,000 employees worldwide and produces over 10,000 products, including Alka Seltzer, Baby Bio and Levitra.

Johnson & Johnson produces healthcare products, medical devices and consumer products such as toiletries. The company currently offers a two-year sales and marketing graduate scheme.

L’Oréal is a global beauty products company with brands such as Garnier, Maybelline and L’Oréal Paris, as well as the Body Shop. Graduates can join the commercial, marketing, supply chain or finance branches of the management training scheme.

MERCK is a pharmaceutical company that develops and produces medicines, vaccines, consumer health products and animal health products. Its UK subsidiary is MSD.

Pfizer is a pharmaceutical company that researches and develops medicines for humans and animals.
