50% of employers still have graduate vacancies to fill, survey finds

Half of the employers surveyed by the Association of Graduate Recruiters for last week’s TARGETjobs Breakfast News event still have graduate vacancies to fill, while more than 40% are planning to increase their graduate intake compared with last year.

However, 42% of 1,500 students surveyed by targetjobs.co.uk were not confident of getting a job after graduation and 18% said the recession was the main reason why they planned to take up postgraduate study.

Chris Phillips, UK publishing director at targetjobs.co.uk’s parent company GTI Media, commented, ‘This just goes to show the difference between perception and reality as some students react negatively to headlines. The message is: don’t give up; there are opportunities for you.’
