Green energy partnership to create graduate engineering jobs in Scotland

Mitsubishi has entered into a partnership agreement with Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE) to work together on green energy developments such as the use of low carbon vehicles and the delivery of renewable energy from offshore wind farms.

The partnership is expected to lead to the creation of 100 highly-skilled engineering-based jobs at the Centre of Engineering Excellence in Renewable Energy in Glasgow, which was set up by SSE and the University of Strathclyde in 2009. Employment at the centre is expected to grow to around 1,000 jobs over the next five years, as other partners and suppliers of offshore wind energy products and services base engineering-related jobs there.

Colin Hood, the chief operating officer of SSE, said, ‘This agreement represents one of the most significant industrial partnerships to be established in Scotland since the heyday of North Sea oil – and low carbon energy represents Scotland’s biggest economic opportunity since then.’
