In 2019, WISE reported that government data showed that the UK had reached the milestone of one million women in core-STEM occupations, comprising 24% of the workforce. The next goal? One and a half million women in STEM by 2030.
In this webinar, we were joined by two female engineers. As well as touching on their own personal experiences in their careers so far, we talked about what STEM employers are doing to recruit, support and progress female students and graduates; why it is so crucial for women to be increasingly present in traditionally male-dominated industries; and what barriers or misconceptions about careers in STEM need to be broken down.
We also discussed applying for STEM graduate roles without a STEM degree, getting work experience as a postgraduate student or graduate, how to mention women in STEM in interviews and applications without it coming across as cliche, returning to STEM after a career break, and overcoming imposter syndrome in the workplace.
